Hankook Tires review

Hankook has a range of tires that are affordable, but it isn’t as good as the larger manufacturers like Continental and Michelin.

Hankook Tires has been in the tire business for a while and is one of the newest players. Hankook Tires was founded in South Korea in 1941. Most tire brands have had at least a half-century of experience in designing and manufacturing rubber. Hankook is a well-known brand that offers high-quality, affordable products with excellent tread-life guarantees. Although it is not our top tire brand (opens in new window), it has a decent range that will fit most vehicles and conditions.

Hankook was the affordable brand that we found with great tread-life warranties and prices when we compared them to the most popular tire sizes for cars, trucks and SUVs.

Hankook charges $82 per tire for its most popular sedan tires. The market average price for similar sizes of tires is $102 per tire. The average price of the Nexen Tires (opens new tab), and Cooper Tires (opens new tab) is a bit lower. Hankook is still a good choice overall.

On average, the SUV-sized tires cost $139 per tire. It’s also the most affordable brand of tire in this size. Cooper is the closest at $118 per tire.

Average truck tires cost $181, which is $22 less than the market average. Cooper’s average cost for similar tires is $2 less than this, making it more competitive. However, it isn’t as competitive as Continental tires’ average truck price.

Hankook covers 21 tire models under its tread-life warranty, which is average. The best warranty, which covers the all-season touring OptimoH727 tires, has a tread life mileage of 100,000 miles, which is the most mileage available on the market. Three other brands have tires with 90,000 miles, while most others have peak mileage warranties of around 80,000 miles.

Hankook’s average tread life warranty covers 59,000 miles. This is nearly 3,500 miles more than the average market. The majority of covered series have a mileage limit of 50,000, but some high-performance sports tires can go as low as 40,000 miles.

Each Hankook tire comes with a 30-day road trial period. This is the average time frame for most tire brands. However, some brands don’t offer any road testing periods. You can evaluate the tire’s performance during this period. You can return them if they are not up to your standards, such as being too loud, or too rough.

Hankook offers the most popular tire sizes, 15-, 16 and 17-inch rims. These averages were determined by searching for the three most popular sizes that fit passenger cars on each of these wheels. Hankook was not as good as Michelin (opens in new window). There were five options for 15 and 17 inch rims, and seven for 16-inch. Nine performance options were available for the most popular size tire, P205/55R16. There were also 23 performance options available for the same size tire. The options available are however consistent: every size tire we looked at had at least three options.

We searched for trucks that fit rims measuring 16-18 inches. Hankook has five performance options for each size. On average, there were four options in the market. Elite brands had an average of 11 to 12 performance options per size truck tire.

Should you choose Hankook Tires?

Hankook was our choice for the brand with best tread-mile warranties. It has the tire series that has the highest expected mileage, and the average mileage is higher than average. You have a variety of performance options and it is among the most affordable brands. Although it’s a good choice, you can find better tires elsewhere.
